Past Ground Shows
Over the years, ground displays have included the locally based Williams Formula One team showcar, Hawkwalk Falconry demonstration, Ferret Racing, Punch & Judy Show, assorted Kids Amusements, ‘Living History’ village, Trade Stalls & Crafts, Flight Simulators, aircraft cockpits to sit in, Oxford Harmony Accapella group, Viv O’Gara Irish Dancers, Vintage & Classic Vehicles, Live Music by Rock artist Rick Chase and nostalgic 1940s music by Fiona Harrison, Abbey Brass Band, Arena Displays, ‘Vale Islanders’, World War Two Re-enactors (including US, British, USSR,Finnish and German army plus ‘Dad’s Army’ characters and associated equipment), Dr Who’s Daleks & K9, Star Wars Stormtroopers, Tank Rides, a running Merlin engine as fitted to Spitfires, Frankie and the Gamblers folk band and a lot more which has entertained visiting families!
Past Flying Displays
Participants at past shows have included the amazing Royal Netherlands Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon, the worlds only flying Avro Vulcan, most of the RAF types such as Jaguar, RAF Tristar, VC-10 tanker, C-17 Globemaster III, C130 Hercules, Tucano, Merlin & Chinook helicopter, Hawk, Tutor, King Air, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’s Lancaster, Spitfires and Hurricanes,Army Air Corp Lynx, the Royal Navy’s Lynx helicopter plus a variety of civilian acts from the Hunters and Gnats through to DC3 Dakotas, T28 Fennec, the Swift Glider Aerobatic Display Team, Twister Duo, Jet Provost, Vampire, Harvard, Pembroke, Jungmeister, Breitling Wingwalkers, Anson, P-51 Mustang, Trig aerobatic team (Pitts Specials), Catalina, Canberra PR9, Parachutists, RAF Typhoon / BBMF Spitfire syncro pair, Calidus Autogyro, Bristol Blenheim bomber and many more.
Jet aircraft and any heavy types allocated now usually operate from nearby RAF Brize Norton but everything else operates from the airfield.
Past Static Display / Fly-In Aircraft
The static aircraft displays and fly-in visitors have seen a wide variety of aircraft over the years participating, including an RAF C17 Globemaster III, a Royal Netherlands Air Force Pilatus PC7, RAF Merlin, Chinook & Puma Helicopters,ex German Air Force OV-10 Bronco, Belgian Air Component SF260 Marchetti, Luscombe, TB10, Auster, C172, Harvard, Polish Navy M28 Bryza, Stearman, Jodel, DC3 Dakota, RAF Tutor, RAF Hawk, US Army VIP UH60 Blackhawk helicopter, Miles Magister, Chipmunk, Bulldog, Belgian Air Force NH-90 Caiman helicopter, and many more interesting civilian types. Apart from jets the majority of the Flying Display aircraft also are on view for close viewing.
Fly In aircraft / owners wishing to book their type in, can do so by going to the contacts page (Steve LeVien), and there will be a Landing fee of £10 per person when the application form goes live,which goes towards the Air Ambulance Trust donation from us.
Past Vintage & Classic Vehicles
Through the years, Vintage and Classic vehicles of all types have registering to attend, we normally have a selection such as MGs (which were built in Abingdon), Historic Police cars, Buses which have included the famous London Routemaster, ex-Military Vehicles (including Bedford four tonners, Jeeps, Dodge & Tanks etc), Motorbikes (including Harley Davidson), Miniature quarter scale Steam engines, Commercial trucks through to TV Cars from the Dukes of Hazzard ‘General Lee’ to that loveable VW Beetle ‘Herbie’! There is a small fee to enter which goes towards the Air Ambulance Trust donation we will give them, more details will be on the online booking form in January.
